Why does everyone always have to bring up the Illusionist when talking about the Prestige or vice versa. Is it just because they came out so closely together? The Prestige was by far the better movie, but the Illusionist was also fantastic. Everything about the Illusionist was above average, the Prestige just had that gritty/dark Nolan feel to it, and that's generally going to be preferred for twist movies.

I agree with you a million percent. I hate that they are always paired together. Prestige is leaps and bounds better, but even with that aside they are completely different types of movies.

'The Illusionist' is to 'The Prestige' as "Deep Impact' is to 'Armageddon' or what 'Gordy' is to 'Babe'

Similar plots, that came out around the same time, where one is genuinely agreed upon as the better movie

But deep impact and Armageddon is at least a similar idea. Prestige vs Illusionist is nothing alike

Thats a huge claim very few would agree with.

No, I bet you I could find hundreds of thousands, if not millions of opinions that agree with it.

Nolan's success is manifested by the presence of most of his titles on the IMDB Top 250.

I didn't say he was objectively the best, I said he was my personal best.

what does wolf of wall street have to do with nolan?

i love nolan as much as the next guy. very high on him

but i still think theres probably a handful of directors id consider to have greater careers thus far. as nolan hasnt been doing this as long as the likes of scorcese or ridley scott

im verrrrry excited for dunkirk too

nolan working with cillian for like the 5th time. and hardy for 3rd
my fave actor cillian toms great too

Wolf of Wall Street has nothing to do with Nolan, I was just listing my favourite movies of all time. 4 of my 5 favourite movies ever, are all made by Nolan. The only non-Nolan film in my top 5 is Wolf of Wall Street, that's why I mentioned it.

Holy fuck that might be the best movie I have ever seen

The story in it is so complex, it's crazy to imagine someone actually writing that. If anyone hasn't seen it I highly recommend it

best movie i've ever seen also , with shawshank Redemption.

Really? They're both period drama/adventure movies about talented magicians who con people into thinking there is something more to what they're doing.

You could probably talk about the differences between star trek and star wars all day but you must be able to see the similarities.

Also they're the only two movies anything like this or at least popular ones i've heard of.

The Prestige is better but the two are basically the same film. They represent a very specific "LEL I TRICKED YOU NAOW" type of filmmaking.
