It's really quite telling that none of you want to talk about the film, instead you resort to the "popular = good" fallacy.

By that logic Cheeseburger is the world top cullinary experience and One direction / Justin Bieber are the top artists of the last five years.
If you're a One direction fan im not sure I can take your opinion seriously and if you are not then you must also realise that your popularity argument is a load of trash.

They can be entertaining at best but they don't belong on any "best films" list.
IMDB is compiled by the average joe, many of the films that go on there aren't good they just happen to be pandering to a large demographic.
If you check out lists made by people who actually have a clue like people in the industry or top critics you won't find Pixar, you won't find superheroes, you won't find Interstellar, you will definitly not find Sawshank redemption on there.

Being popular is not evident of being of high quality, you will find the opposite is often the case. See mcdonals for an obvious example. It's shit, it kills you and it's the most popular food on the planet.

You have a philosopher as your avatar so hopefully this doesn't surprise you too much.
Standards are created by the general public.

Nobody says McDonalds is fine cuisine, but as far as how much effort+money you put in to get it, it's a good deal.

If the general public wanted intellectual content, you would see that being produced.
But seeing as movies are part of the ENTERTAINMENT industry, the highest quality movie is that which entertains the most.

So if the general public says that is the top 250, then those are the 250 movies that have entertained or impressed the most people.

It makes me sad knowing people actually consider the IMDB top 250 as a legit way to measure how good a film is.

And I don't see any film out doing Mad Max this year. Sadly it doesn't get as much credit due to the genre.

Holy fucking shit, you must put a lot of fucking garbage into your mouth if you think McDonalds is even decent at best.

I eat pretty healthy most of the time. Haven't eaten McDonalds in years at this point.
But for your money and the little amount of effort you have to put in, I can see why the appeal is definitely there for many.

And any films you like are the best film in the universe? It's all to do with individual tastes... and if there's enough people liking one film, That film by definition is a good film. Your or my opinion on that subject matter doesn't matter.
