Tell your bro that if he accepts Adamantium in that fictional universe, he shouldn't bitch about wolverine slicing the tires of an oncoming truck. In that universe, it actually makes sense.

Whereas the bone marrow transplant that magically makes people heal radiation wounds instantly is far fetched (aka, no fucking way that shit is happening). Especially not with the circumstances they are in.

If you think about it a little, you have what seems to be 1 doctor and a few aids at the most. A doctor that didn't actually go to med school, but was taught by another doctor (who also most certainly didn't go to med school), and you go up that chain for however long they were stuck in that mountain.

With scarce resources, knowledge of a super complicated science passed on by few individuals and hardly any room for innovation when your primary focus is to survive, the chances of 1 or a couple of poorly trained doctors making scientific discoveries that would literally make science appear like magic is zero.

When you watch sci-fi or fantasy, they present to you elements that you HAVE to accept as part of that universe. Adamantium for example. Or genetic mutations that give people powers. Or incredible (yet still credible) advancements in space travel. Once you've accepted those elements, the rest must still feel like it's real.

That bone marrow transplant feels like bullshit to me too. I just choose to ignore it. Not everyone will do the same.

1. My brother - in - law was actually referring to science in retrospect to "Enginering Mechanics in Co-exististence to gravity laws and momentum physics"... thus you are incorrect in his perception of the matter.
2. The lore of metabolic rates with regenerative power does NOT have anything to do with Physics including Momentum [which is described in my post as him being an idiot bringing in realistic/problematic equations to a ficthional show].
3. Physic Science and Human Science are two different issues... but... if you want to broaden your horizons, take a few of the masterful movies / programs that are and have been around for quite some time... Star Trek / Babylon 5 / Star Wars / [The Cylons in that old TV show that was re-made not long ago] ... you have Prometheus, the start of the Alien movies that came out years ago... and the sequels etc.

Shit there are tons of movies that can be held up for debate... thing is... you lost the plot to where I was coming from.

True.

No I'm not incorrect. The fictional element called Adamantium allows a guy with no super strength to slice through thick ass metal doors. The tires would offer no resistance, even if they were coming in fast.

And in retrospect, I shouldn't have said anything. You seem like the type of person who will not stop until he wins, whether by bullshitting his way through an argument with literally no valid points or otherwise.

No real point discussing this with you. You completely overlooked anything I had to say and started regurgitating the same shit again, but with different words.

You chose to argue about Adamantium in the conversation where my brother-in-law was talking about natural physics and momentum.
As you stated Wolverine is a normal guy... outside the fact that he regenerates / never aging and his bones are fused with adamantium [metalic substance]. Now, we know that his actual body weight changes [proven when he sits on the motorcycle for the first time], now, my brother-in-law was basically talking about travelling @ 60kmh vs another vehicle travelling 60kmh [120kmh impact]... EVEN in the movies and comics, when vehicles come into contact at speeds, there is destruction to both... and Wolverine on a motorcycle, holding the accelerator down with 1 hand, while leaning to the left, arm half stretched at time of impact. HE DID NOT EVEN budge at all. This is where my brother-in-law was being a dick. Watch the trailer from 2min.14sec and see for yourself.

That's exactly it tho. In the comics and the TV series, adamantium has very unique properties. Just like vibranium does. What vibranium can do clearly defies physics.

It's the FICTIONAL element you had to accept. And it makes things like that scene plausible.

 I was pointing out my Brother-in-laws nerdiness to a fictional show and episode... I told him he was being a dick about it and watch it for what it is... no need to go into fictional elements in a fictional show... hence my post quoting Awoudex to stop criticising this fictional program.

I think we kinda got confused in comments... look back and you will see we are talking about the same thing in retrospect.

I know you're advocating the respect of fictional elements. That's good.

My issue is more about your argument with the guy who doesn't like the bone marrow bullshit of the 100. It has no precedent. No fictional element to base it on was ever presented. So I tend to agree with him on that front. I just choose to ignore it when watching the show.

Oh i like shit like that, but they will have to make the band-aid to explain such a thing plausible stick, and they haven't done that. Also even the most extreme radiation would take you more than a couple of days to die, not mere minutes...

btw, i'm still watching. Some of the actors have improved, the storyline has improved and i believe it was you who convinced me to keep watching when i was halfway through S1.
