A lot of people miss the point of Superman. He has all these powers and he isn't human.

But the thing about him is he wants to be human. He does not want the power he has. His powers are a curse to him. He was born into a world where his family and race was dying but grew up and identified with humans but he will never be one of them. And his morality holds back a lot of what he does. He constantly questions whether or not he should ever actually use his powers.

This is where the incompetence comes from. I mean yeah, with the powers he's supposed to have, he should be able to take care of anyone or any threat. But that doesn't make for a good story, whereas his flaws of how he identifies himself does.

That being said, I'm not the biggest fan of Superman because it just doesn't interest me that much. But a lot of people miss the point of Superman.

From what I gathered, they banished the criminals for their crimes. It kind of felt like they didn't know 100% what to do about the planets destruction, I am not even sure if they believed it could happen, and just went on with life as per usual.
