Well... you read it the way you wanted the outcome to be, so you come back and say that everyone is retarded because you had it in your mind how the book was written.
You don't know how to keep an open mind, you are just close minded to anger and you like to go hostile... especially when someone makes a fool out of you in public, but,
in reality you are continue'ing with this foolish attitude.

We did a study in 1995 where 3 groups were given sections out of a book (the same book and pages), then the groups had to explain what they read in art form.
Basically the groups interpretations were different... outcome was based on that persons way of reading skill and level, but, they denied that they may have needed more
English reading skills, maybe they didn't, maybe it was the other people that needed it, or maybe they saw something in the text that another didn't, was there intentional
misleading content to the text?... what the groups did not realise... there was no right or wrong answer... outcome was the same, personal interpretation.

How you perceive the written text is your perogative, as it is to others... I have great imagination, I made up stories to tell my son and daughter stories at the end of each night,

I read and thoroughly enjoyed the book, I also watched and really enjoyed the hobbit, I thought some of the parts they added to it were excellent. Personally think that peter Jackson did a fantastic job. He is bringing more about the rise of sauron, and Evangeline lily is so hot haha.

Won't watch the next 2 Cuz an unexpected journey was god awful. Almost passable as a Disney movie. Trash

This thread has so much face-palm it's not even funny. I'm not talking about additional characters being added into the movie, that could have possibly worked out. I'm talking about changing every single last scene from what actually happened. Bilbo going all nutso because a spider gets close to his "precious". Nope... not really, he actually just killed a fucking spider because he had to and then he killed like 20 more while saving the dwarves sorry asses and then he told them all about the ring because it wasn't a big deal..... Bilbo killing 20 spiders like a beast > Bilbo being a psychotic little bitch because of a ring that we already have 3 movies about. Or how about Gandalf acting like an uncertain bitch in every single scene? The man had no uncertainty, I'm all for slight changes but making the most badass wizard seem like a pissing and moaning teenager is just downright offensive.

You people have obviously not read (recently at least) the Hobbit.

Once again, it's not about "how I read it". It's about what actually happened compared to the trash that keeps being made up lol. We have 3 movies about the fucking ring already, this BOOK was not about the fucking ring, stop beating a dead horse. Every single thing they are doing is trying to link to the trilogy and it shouldn't. It's a different story and it should stand on it's on.

I'm done. I implore all of you to go read it for yourselves and see that I'm not "reading what I want to read", I'm reading what happened. The ring/mordor/sauron w/e, wasn't a factor and it shouldn't be. The Hobbit, the greatest book Tolkien wrote (imo) does not need any help carrying it's own story.

It's a pointless debate though. I understand that some of you enjoy the movies and I understand that a lot of people who know nothing about the book are bitching only about additional characters etc.. I'm a little bit different, this being my favorite book growing up and all. I am bitching about the way they completely changed the persona of every main character. Go read it and tell me I'm wrong. Please don't just look up retarded retorts from people who have supposedly read the book, that's the only type of response you people have mustered so far.

If only you knew the changes that have been made. I implore you to go read the book and decide for yourself. I'm sure I do see the book in my own way and I probably wouldn't be 100% happy with them regardless, they still could have been made bearable. Sticking to what the story was about instead of trying to sell a story that has already been told would have been a much better approach. I guess that's just me though. I honestly don't understand why the rest of you don't just watch LOTR over and over again, obviously you're intimidated by a new story.

Obviously they have to add in a lot of filler. Otherwise it wouldn't be able to stretch out over three films.


Who really cares if it isn't exactly like the book besides nerds and weirdos. I thought it was pretty cool how they are linking the trilogy with the LotR trilogy. Why not do it either? It is a prequel. It's not like they are getting that crazy with it.

The Hobbit is a great story but it just doesn't have enough substance imo for a trilogy. Maybe for two films but why do that when you could add a little twist in it to make it a trilogy.

Another reason to live... I must finish the trilogy once again.

I'll keep out of the whole ''the movie should/should not be exactly like the book'' discussion. But if you only have enough source material for one or two movies, why the hell would adding filler to stretch it to three movies be a good idea? It just dilutes the actual impact of the main plotline.
