This might be one of Brad Pitts few bad movies.

Looks awful imo. Think I'll just go watch 28 Days Later again.

Quotiong myself again because of narcism and being hyped up on the concept and potential of high budgets. How cool it would be to have excessive realistic pirate movie directed by Michael Haneke / Lars von Trier. Outside the box POV horror movie in 3D (yea, really) directed by Gaspar Noe. Apocalyptic lovecraftian film by Leos Carax. Maybe some day producers of hollywood will take even francion of a risk.

Yeah zombies and vampires have become such mythical beings it's ridiculous.

For scientific vampires see: I Am Legend (novel)
For scientific zombies see: I Am Legend (novel)
For a protagonist that deals with the situation well see: I Am Legend (novel)

tl:dr read I Am Legend instead of watching horrid fantasy movies such as this one.

The thing is they weren't mythical in the Max Brooks novel and zombie guide, he very clearly detailed their attributes, possible origins, physiology, etc which is why its such a shame they completely ignored it and went full retard on it.
