Seen Assassin(s) and Rebellion? I'll give them a shot sometime.

Well, maybe I exagerated a bit.

Assassin(s) was at least watchable, just the expectations after La Haine were so great that probably anything would've seemed like crap.

Let's not forget Gothika and Babylon AD were from his hand as well...

Honestly, didn't know about Rebellion until just now. Trailer looks interesting enough;

Andrew Dominik is officially on my radar.

I know people have been complaining about his latest movie "Killing them softly," some bullshit about the useless paralleling of current politics in America. There are complaints about the lack of depth in the characters, there are problems with the story. Problems with the over use of slow-motion. BUT I loved this movie. Brad Pitt was fantastic, and the visuals are amazing.

Also this guy too: Rian Johnson

Awesome writer, pretty damn good director.

Good, chill film, one of the best of 2012, didn't find slow-motion problematic.

Really liked Brick back in 2005, should probably rewatch at some point. Looper is pretty good but the last 1/3 was a bit too cartoonish for my taste. How is The Brothers Bloom?

@Bold. Not something I've seen.

I didn't find the slow-motion a problem either, but I hear a lot of complaints about it. That reminds me. I was watching "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" and somebody needs to help me here... I'm going to give a small punch list of atrocities this movie committed that would normally cause unbridled hatred for the movie. SOMEHOW, I ended up loving it, despite the punch list.

1: Long, unjustified run-time
2: Repetitive, obscure and unjustified camera effects
3: Repetitive score
4: Narration
5: Too many characters
6: Awkward story arcs
7: Depressing speech, visuals, music, and body language for the majority of the movie, so much that I feel like I need to talk to somebody and some Prozac after it's over.
8: Casey Affleck in a lead role (Don't give me any shit about gone baby gone, I hate that movie, and Casey Affleck is awful. Except for this one movie, he nailed it as Robert Ford.)

Can't remember much of this anymore, thought it was pretty good but wasn't blown away like everyone else.

1. How could it be unjustified if you loved it? :p
6. Always more interesting than bland
7. Can't see that being a bad thing.
8. Casey Affleck is really solid in lead role of Gerry and plays a creep pretty well Killer Inside Me.

I thought this was ok, loved the initial pace of the movie. Have to slightly agree with the masses who complain about character development :/ and the final 3rd of the film seemed a rushed anti climax. Though i seem to be saying that a lot about recent films seen, maybe I'm after cliches and cheap thrills :/ have to agree Pitt was awesome, infact he's always pretty awesome in all of his roles
My fav char has to be tony soprano though :D i dont care if it was intentional or not but he was hilarious, and seemingly pointless?

E: the slow motion scenes stick in my head, thought they were awesome - bullet through the window? As if to say all the time in the world can't help you here ray. Die

Not sure if I understand character development correctly. Does it mean he changes as a person during the film (not just perception), for better or worse? If so, I don't think it's compulsory in film, at all.
There was plenty of stuff going on, the style just is casual. Pretty sure he is 100% intentional, he turned out to be pointless for them, not for viewers :p

Character development is for the benefit of the audience. It's impossible to understand a character's motivation at the outset of any film unless its been established in a previous story. Instead of using exposition or narration we usually come to understand the character slowly, through expression and small insights, eventually understanding who they are. This movie "according to critics" didn't allow us to know anyone.

I thought sopranos character was a huge waste of time, or maybe I misunderstood him in the context of the film.

Thought it was fine at it is, wasn't its approach meant to be a bit of a bit of a clinical mystery, every man is an island, don't get too close to anyone. Idk, just worked well.
For me that soprano dude was one of the highlights of the film. Unusual, solipsistic drunkard hitman. Unexpected as the lifestyle and that kind of world.

Good film.
