The film is the feature-length directorial debut of MacFarlane, [2] produced by Media Rights Capital and distributed by Universal Pictures. It was released on June 29, 2012, to critical and commercial success, becoming the 12th highest-grossing film of the year, the highest-grossing R-rated film of the year, and the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. [3][4][5] . On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, it was announced that there are plans for a sequel.
So wikipedia is wrong?
Wikipedia is wrong quite a few times. They're right, you should fact check. And to be specific you said "Highest rated R comedy of all time" which it is not.

Seth McFarlane’s directorial debut Ted, the raunchy comedy about a bong-smoking teddy bear starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, has officially broken a box office record.
It is now (sort of) the highest grossing comedy of all time — except not really.
If we’re being technical, it’s actually the highest grossing non-sequel, R-rated comedy of all time… at the worldwide box office. That specific enough for ya?
