People are already saying the spinoff movies are going to suck. I guess it really isn't a new trend. I remember people saying Heath Ledger was a horrible choice for the Joker before The Dark Knight was released. Social media is just making the bitching easier to do I guess.
Han Solo is one of the most popular characters in the franchise and he isn't a Jedi. Obviously the movies are about the light vs the dark, good vs evil etc. That doesn't mean you can't have a movie without them being the main focus.
what does a character popularity have to do with the main part of the story/universe
The main evil is the Sith and the main good is the Jedi
Every time the good side wins, its because of a Jedi
Without a Jedi, the goods guys would never win in any one of the movies
Always has been since the first Star Wars
Always has been since Star Wars history/universe was created
The sith/Jedi/force has been the main focus of every single movie
If you took out those 3, it wouldn't be Star Wars
It's the fantasy part of it which differentiates itself from other scifi
