There is simply no reason why they would write that in. Making that hitchhiker die doesn't make sense either. He survives for a year plus yet dies like that?

Write what in? finding morgan? Fans have been calling for him since season 1. The walking dead producers have been in talks with him but they could never sync up their schedules. At the time he was working on the show "line of duty" and AMC has him on another upcoming show called Low Winter Sun. As for the hitchhiker, I just call that bad luck. I knew they weren't going to pick him up because everytime they trust someone, shit happens and once they left them there after he stumbled, I knew he was going to be dead.

Write Morgan staying semi-crazy instead of coming to his senses (Like he does in the land of spoilers). They clearly don't want to have two black characters at once.

Well given that they may have only been able to get him in on one episode with his current projects and up coming amc show, it makes sense to leave him semi crazy. I mean he did see his boy get killed by his zombie wife who he couldn't kill in the first place, so he's wracked with guilt over not having killed his wife in the first place and having to kill his wife and then either kill his son or watch him turn and then kill him too. That's a whole different kind of crazy. I mean he did beg for Rick to kill him.

He's still got guns and a nice place to hold up, they can always incorporate him again. We don't know if that's the last we'll be seeing of him for season 3, they kept a tight lid while letting speculation about the talks of returning go around.

he's also currently filming a movie called Swelter and there will be a second series of Line of Duty, so his schedule may be tight but this was a definite fan service and they kept a close lid on it.

So who knows.

There are so many reasons for this.
The survivor walking on the roads was showing how Rick can't trust anyone anymore.
To be honest this was one of the best episodes yet.
It wasn't the whole premise of finding Morgan, it was about how Rick was leading up to essentially becoming Morgan if he didn't get over the loss of Lori.
If you noticed, Rick kept telling Morgan, "You have to get through this." He is trying to reassure himself that losing his own wife wont make him go down this path of isolation.
Morgan also made Rick realize about how crazy isolation is, playing deeper into the seasons theme of "stay with a group." Ex. Micchone, Merle, and Daryl.
In all aspects, Rick and Morgan are very similar, Morgan fell off the deep end because his emotions interfered with what had to be done.
That's why Rick didn't pick up the hitchhiker. And it all goes to show how the hitchhiker died when he was ALONE.

Things are deeper than you think. :)
