I had no idea who he was and didn't recognize the face, but something felt off about that whole scene. The way the camera lingered on him, it gave me the impression that I was missing something. I was racking my brain to think of where this character may have shown up in a previous scene. Why was it acting like there was some significance to it? It seemed out of place in a weird way.

You mean showing him while he was talking? If lingering on a cameos fafe is intrusive by your definition then why didn't you blow your shit at

Ilyn Payne is a main character so it felt natural to have him be focused on in the scene. The way 'random singer soldier' was treated by the camera made it seem like I should know him from somewhere, like maybe he had crossed paths with someone in the Riverlands before. When the scene ended innocently I was like ... "uhh, ok, did I miss something there?"

Except that is the first time we see him, have no idea who he is except that he is Wilko Johnson and the camera keeps on him for what feels like a year for seemingly no reason.

No one is an established character until they get established. If 'random single solider' reappears in the future as part of Arya's development then, in retrospect, the scene from Ep1 will have fit in completely naturally.

Except it doesn't work like that. You can't retcon outrage. People should have been outraged at that scene because they didn't know what would happen in the future. It is arguable 10000x worse than the Ed scene but no one cared.

Plus it isn't like Ed made any decisions other than to say yes when offered. Someone write a scene and said "we need someone to sing this song" and instead of holding open auditions they asked Ed because he can sing and Maisey really likes him so the director thought it would be nice to get him for her.

The scene would still be there if it wasn't Ed. The scene was there to humanize the peasants to us and Arya.

If you have issue with the camera work or anything blame the director, literally all Ed did was say "that sounds like fun" when offered the part (or however it played out, doesn't really matter). All this outrage towards him is absurd.

People are actually the worst, this is one example of many which shows how shit people are, and honestly someone should probably just start a nuclear war because most of us don't deserve to exist.

I don't get the hate of that scene.

I thought it was actually pretty cool.

I think the scene is setting up Arya to return to her family instead of Kings Landing because of all their talk of missing their families.

I had never heard of this Ed Sheeran guy. Just looked him up and tbh if there was something that bothered me about that scene it was the the haircut of some of the other soldiers, which imo seemed too well groomed and modern for Westeros.

Maybe he's a Lord trying to travel unnoticed

If he was a random no body no one would say a word.

Anyone who cares about this Ed stuff needs to grow up. They put cheese cameos in shows all the time and this one wasn't even bad lol. I agree completely that the scene is emphasizing Arya's internal struggle with becoming a soulless killer and that last hanging piece of empathy that she still has. Pretty pointless scene as she has to die at this point. She's done too much evil and most likely, her conscious will be what kills her. She'll hesitate for a second and boom, she's dead. it'll be a sad day for us all. If people want to complain, they should be irritated by fuckboy Greyjoys outfit... That shit just did not fit AT ALL with anything we've seen in GOT.

Still, even that's a stupid thing to care about, but it could become a problem if every character starts dressing like they got their close from the most hip fashion designer of the 21st century.

I hope this episode was a turning point for her that makes her give up her death list. With how close she is with Jon I feel like she will head home once she hears word of him being the new King in the North.

That is if that scene had any real impact on the show. It could have just been a neat filler to humanize the soldiers. My feels couldn't handle Arya dying.

I thought the exact same thing about Euron's outfit too.
