Nobody in the show has been given sword fighting lessons I think. They are all terrible at it, lucky it plays only a minor part.

I concur with the others quoted below. Most of the sword scenes are bad and slow as fudge. When using 1 hand sword vs 2 dagger style, you use the length of your broadsword and weild it 2 handed
to increase your speed and strength of your swing and also faint more effectively to direct your blows to the forearm to aid you in a throat thrust.

Oh, and yes I have been trained in 1 hand / dual sword / sword and dagger / sword and shield / 2 handed sword / spear / staff / axe [2h / 1h & dual].
