You can't say no one in history has done it before. It is star wars canon that A LOT of the history of the galaxy had been lost. There is close to, if not more, than ten thousand years of interstellar history. No one has done it in the 9 movies for very obvious reasons. It is pretty clearly a last ditch effort in a no hope situation that requires sacrificing an extremely powerful/large mega-ship to succeed. It also requires a target that is worth the effort. These two things lined up in TLJ in a way they never have before in the 9 movies.

while i agree this was the best case we've seen, we've also seen the resistance a few seconds from failure multiple times. why shoot in the death star scene? one brave pilot light speeding can clearly do more dmg than one single laser blast and many ran down that runway and died. why not light speed into the reactors on the starkiller base? again, many people died and it seemed all hope was lost.

but overall i agree if the resistance just tried to light speed an x wing at every empire cruiser it wouldn't work out by the physics you're presenting.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the plan was to have the Jurassic world guy do #3. My point is I think having 1 person do it would be significantly better because they can realize a full story. I'm adjusting #3 based on #2 because I liked the direction Rian took #2, even if there are elements I don't like, I liked the overall direction.

I'm sure you could make a very similar list for TLJ if you changed it based on FA and it JJ had done it instead of Rian. I think it would be a far less interesting story though (and I think RoS proves that).

90% of the reason i hate TLJ is because of how much i like the direction. i like nobody rey. i liked the rey/kylo connection, i like snoke the villain, i loved the fight scenes, and i liked going to the original jedi temple. but the poor execution makes me hate plotpoints id otherwise love. its like a shitty pizza, i love pizza, but if its done wrong its trash and just leaves u mad u didnt get to eat a good pizza.

I mean I don't think you could do the situations you describe because of the... Reactions? (Not sure that is the correct term) required. Like I'm sure you could theoretically light speed into the reactors on Star Killer Base, but as a person who has to enter and exit light speed, how do you realistically do that? Han, basically the best (non force sensitive) pilot in star wars history was barely able to light speed onto a planet surface, which is like a 100km cubed area of space.

just fly down the runway until the area they want to shoot is about in sight, then lightspeed boom straight into it.

Luke took down the deathstar with 1 shot, surely a lightspeed impact from an xwing does more dmg. the only reason the 1 missile even worked was because of a defect the creator made so it could be destroyed, as we saw in Rogue One. i know that was an afterthought, but still.

I mean for me it's more like picking the olives off of an otherwise good pizza. Overall I think TLJ was good, there are just a few things I think were poorly handled.

I mean in that specific situation, that wouldn't work. The thermal port wasn't big enough for a ship, that's why they had to shoot a missile. Because it had to fly from the surface of the death star to the center of it where the reactor was.

that's true, granted i never got how those thermal missiles were even supposed to work and just follow the tube down after turning on an angle and not exploding.

but starkiller base? the reactors were right on the surface.

They were in that big domed area, protected by that massive structure. Like I said, I'm sure you could theoretically light speed jump inside of the dome and ram the reactors, but how do you actually do that in reality? Obviously computer ai planned route entering and exiting light speed could easily do it, but Star Wars doesn't seem to have that.

why would u need to lightspeed jump through/into anything? just lightspeed into the dome.

as we saw with Holdo, she cut through the ship completely. she didnt blow apart on it.

Snokes ship was a lot larger than Holdo's. the reactors were bigger than an X wing.

Why are you ignoring that the reactors "on the surface" were protected by a giant structure? The entire plan was a ground team to take out the surface structure so the air team could get to the reactors... Which they did.
