I liked the porgs and feel like they added more to a deep universe.

At least they had no real impact on the story and didn't help the Resistance defeat the First Order...

You mean like those awesome ice Fox things that for some fucking reason 1 stayed behind to guide the resistance to safety <_<

Dude... Spoiler alert, now we know how episode 9 ends. Porgs infest V3 Death Star and bring that fucker down on the main First Order planetary base. Don't worry though, Daisy will be dancing around in a skimpy outfit to distract you :p

Incoming Daisy in metal bikini...

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a pretty long movie at 2.5 hours but it felt more like 1.5, so I didn't think it was too drawn out.

Yes, there are a bunch of things you can pick out that were lame, unnecessary and even flat-out stupid that have already been mentioned here:

- Leia supermanning indeed looked dumb.

- Finn/Rose storyline was dumb and felt forced, especially the diversity thing.

- The Snoke thing can go either way. On one hand you could say it was unexpected and "different" in a good way, but on the other hand it was anti-climactic. Like others have said, it would have been nice if we got some character development for him but I imagine that'll happen in one of the million future sequels or prequels.

- The Luke thing can go both ways, as well. I know some people didn't like how he died/left but I thought it was fine: used all his "energy" for one final feat to help the good guys and usher in the new generation.

- A little too much comedy, including some with Kylo which just doesn't fit, but at least the funny parts were legit funny, they made me and pretty much everyone in the theater laugh anyway.

It wasn't anywhere near perfect but none in the franchise have been. People are just really picky have just put the originals on an untouchable pedestal like most people do with originals and/or things from their younger years (I'm guilty of it, as well). I'm not a big Star Wars guy, I've seen each of the first 6 only twice and have forgotten most of it, but if I went through them all again today I'd likely find a lot of dumb things just like this newest movie.

it was pretty underwhelming

killing off snoke like that was bold but it was disappointing because 1. His origins weren't revealed beforehand and 2. now all we're left with is kylo

needless to say leia flying through space is the dumbest thing I've ever seen ever

Only watched half the video cuz the guy is annoying. But in the rlm review your guys bring up how the last jedi director stated that there were no plans for Rey or Snoke being tfa, so he had a lot of room to maneuver when writing the movie. Obviously Snoke might be back, he might have been lying, but it he was being truthful then Snoke was justa random guy that is now dead thanks to his own hubris.

The thing about the Finn/Rose storyline is that it underscores the central theme of TLJ: Failure. This entire movie is about failure, and the failure of the mission to Canto Bight just reinforces that theme. It also reinforces the secondary theme of the movie (to which I alluded several pages ago, but has gotten lost in all the fighting between people since): The Force (and Star Wars as a whole) is bigger than the Skywalker family. This is shown at the end of the film, after the "spark" that Luke lit, with the Force-sensitive child on Canto Bight wearing Rose's ring (which again, ties that subplot to the greater film).

This is all true and I don’t understand why nobody seems to get it.

However, we all seem to hate Finn and now rose.

Honestly my only issue with Finn and Rose is they horribly cut that story together with Reys. Like I said earlier I think the movie would be significantly better if it was recut.

The RLM review touches on that as well. They also talk about how the pacing and everything was off because of the confusing way the movie was put together.

How is the theme failure? The Supreme Leader was killed, the entire royal guard was killed, Captain Phasma is killed, the entire First Order rule is in complete disarray, the rebels had significant loses, but they escaped with their general and best fighter, and to top it off, Rey shows up in time to save every single one of the surviving members of the rebellion, with a shocking display of force powers, instantly becoming a new Jedi symbol to rally behind. I figured that would be the story that was being told, but nope, it's the story of Luke being told to promote loyalty to the rebellion, which makes a ton of sense. You gotta imagine the most legendary and well known person in the entire galaxy finally shows up, and the rebellion uses him to cover their asses, while he dies fighting an entire army by himself. How the fuck does this inspire loyalty across the entire galaxy towards the rebellion? It makes no sense.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, I'm not trying to bash you for trying to spin a negative into a positive. To me it felt forced, pointless, and just all around bad. If you found meaning in it that helped you enjoy the movie more, than more fucking power to you, and I'm pumped for you tbh. I'm just too much of cynic to try and spin that shit as a positive lol.
