Cat People (1942)
I made the mistake going into this one looking for this one to be more of a "horror" movie in the sense that we know horror movies today. It isn't that, at all. This movie is much more psychological and suspense-driven. Given that, I need to watch this one again, because when I watched it the first time I was waiting around for "things to happen" while simultaneously trying to understand what things represented in more abstract ways. Those things tend to be over my soft, simple mind anyways so slowing it down and watching it again, preferably with subtitles would be good. Felt much longer than the actual 1 hour and 10 minute run time.
Stagecoach (1939)
Apparently this would be the film that launched John Wayne into Western stardom. It is a pretty intimate film, which takes good use of the spatial confines of an actual stage coach. My favorite performance here was by the drunk doctor. I forget his name, but he kills it and pretty much every scene that revolves around him is awesome. Overall this movie is, in my opinion, probably more "important" than it is good, many Westerns are better but it is 1939 after all.
