One of my favorites; how did you like it?

Was really good. Idk if it was because Cruise/Kidman were actually married at the time but the tension is so real. Kubrick is good.

They were married at the time, yes. It seems weird for him to have chosen that one to involve such a public romance but I like how it worked out, apparently he had that movie in mind for decades and went out with it.

Last night I watched:

The Great Escape (1963)

One of the best all-time pieces of opening music. Instantly reminded me of parodies in the Simpsons.

Overall I didn't really like this one too much. I'm not quite sure what it was, I think there was a lack of levity in the beginning scenes which made it hard for me to particularly care about the internment of the POWs there. There seemed to be not much in the way of actual impact of that internment on the characters, for the most part (one notable exception), so that was kind of lame. I was reminded of The Bridge on the River Kwai a lot with this one, and that one was much better[/i]. One thing Escape did well was that they didn't reduce the Nazis in the movie as the cartoonish supervillains they are too often depicted in mainstream media. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Nazi, but the idea that all Nazis are these sadistic fiends is just wrong and detracts a lot as far as what you can get out of their involvement in a piece.

Anyways, a little long for my taste, some cool sequences and stunts, but probably not something I'm super anxious to see again.

The Exorcist (1973)

This is one of the worst films I ever seen. There is nothing good about it. I know don’t why people would consider this a great movie. It’s definitely grossly overrated.

Shane (1953)

Best thing about this one was the cinematography. Fucking gorgeous, made me wish I had been able to spend more time in upper Wyoming when I was there. This is one damn enjoyable Western. The dynamic of the farms expanding westward and setting up homesteads clashing with those who had been there before who had maintained their lifestyle through classic Western violence was pretty awesome. It made you able to sympathize with both side, which is cool because too often does one side become some caricature that's hard to care about or buy into very much.

I did get this creepy vibe like there was some weird Western three way eminent between Shane, the farmer and his wife; possible while their annoying son watched and cheered Shane on. The kid, who apparently got a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at 10 or 11 years old, I forget, was super fucking annoying.

Oh, and then I watched:

The Hot Chick[/i] (2002)

Funny as Hell.

Ma

Crazy is the only way to put it. Generally Octavia Spencer does comedies but dang was she good in this thriller
