On the other hand with how much stronger Frieza is he probably couldve killed them quickly so even if he didnt want to waste time he could have done it.
So my guess is as good as yours, we just don't know right now.
He might keep Goku and Vegeta alive in case another multiverse tournament happens. Or he wants to take his time killing them and torture them because of what he went through in hell.
On the topic of old characters: Its pretty much a given because Dragon Ball Super is fueled by nostalgia. If this came out as a new manga nobody would give a rats ass, 99% of readers are there because they spent
their childhood reading Dragon Ball (even though DBS is not so bad, just mediocre imo) so they have to put in these call backs to old characters like Frieza, Ginyu, Enma, Yajirobe etc.

It's not any worse than any other Shonen, and Frieza has been a pretty regular character, relatively speaking.

Western comics does the same thing;
But gives the excuse that superman and batman don't kill

To reuse villains,

Reusing good fan favorite villains is better then making us like 100 new enemies

Jiren is coool;
Hit is cool but seems like the saiyans are too much for him now

I don't read the manga so I have no feelings for granola or the ugly monster guy

I wish they made cooler cannon to be honest


Dragon ball just can't betray its old fans to push the new generation, boruto is doing that n sadly the new generation will never match narutos era

Gotten n trunks aging in the new movie bothered me.... I like them way better as cute trouble maker kids

The best boruto episodes all have something to do with the o.g cast

Then it feels like filler

Jiriyah got to show why he was one of most legendary shinobi, he beat a alien even grown up Sasuke couldn't, out smArted him with that epic jirya fight iq

Grown up Sasuke should be able to body jiriya with ease, but jiriya has a funky style that seems to give certain people troubles
