You know what, you’re absolutely right man, I did like Suicide Squad, it just completely slipped my mind.
I enjoyed Burtons original when I was a kid, but I don’t feel they hold up. There’s a lot of solid aspects, but given my gravitation towards more real/gritty filmmaking, the Adam Westesque style just doesnt so much for me. I can see the appeal and still recognize it for what it did, but it’s not something I’d watch by choice or something I’d recommend to someone who hasn’t seen it.
Ben was fine, but until DC completely gives up on copying/following the Marvel model, we’ll be stuck with a DC that shows flashes of promise, but is ultimately mediocre only on their best of films. The reason they do animated so fucking well, is because they’re not trying to pander to everyone. They’re creating a movie that’s good for people who already loved the character and who love the comics and it fucking works, because both are great to begin with.
DC needs to accept that they’ll never be Marvel and move the fuck on. There’s so much wasted potential for a franchise that has so much perfectly dark and fucked up source material to draw from to captivate the adult comic audience. Not everything comic has to be catered to fucking tweens and adults who think canned jokes, phoned in performances and CGI are adequate substitutes for fucking depth.

There are a few things I think DC needs to understand going forward.
1) their main characters are significantly more popular than Marvel (not including Spider-man, aka the only character that was actually profitable pre-mcu), meaning they don't really need to waste so much time on origin crap.
2) stop it with the realism bullshit already, Batman isn't cool because he is dark and gritty and will break a guys back. He is cool because he is the world's greatest detective, has out of this world gadgets, CAN kick your ass if needed but is also very empathetic.
3) for the love of God please make stuff with other characters. Make elseworld stuff.
4) please more comic oriented. Just adapt comic stories, that's all we want, that's why the animated films are so good. Stop trying to hire directors to adapt 20 of their personal favourite comics into 1 movie. Just tell them you want them to do a specific story. Like Long Halloween.
5) seems like they have learned their lesson on this, but reduced studio meddling. Hire someone with a vision, not a director for hire type who will do everything a board asks.
Edit: DC has better characters and better stories. Like 8/10 of the best comics of all time are DC. They just need to utilize their IP better.
