Oh he definitely does lol, but my prejudice of actors goes deep. I’m not proud of that aspect of myself, but it’s just one of those flaws I have.

Regardless of him doing some shitty heartthrob movies and phoning in his performance, like everyone in those films did (or in most cases they just couldn’t act), he’s shown time and time again he’s incredibly talented. I had the same reservations about DiCaprio early on, but he’s one of the actors I respect the most. I believe that guy can play fucking anything and he constantly does shit outside his wheelhouse after breaking into film with tween heartthrob stuff like Titanic and Romeo and Juliet. Shit man, his most recent one, Don’t Look up was a pretty decent commentary on how fucked our current political climate/world is, but he played something totally new and he absolutely nailed it.

E: and ya, I’ll 100% watch it. Aside from Spidey, Batman is probably my favorite hero. I loved comics as a kid (shocker I’m sure), so I watch the majority of them, I’m just almost always disappointed. Marvel still only has a handful I’d classify as good, and for main heroes, DC only has the Nolan series. Watchmen and V for Vendetta are top fucking notch, The Losers and Red were both better than anything else DC, but no one really considers those four when talking “comic” films.

There is no way you didn't like The Suicide Squad. Also Burton's 1989 Batman is great.

If you add animated film into it there are dozens of amazing DC films.

I'm equal parts annoyed and excited for this new Batman.

Annoyed because I really want more batfleck. Live action Frank Miller dark Knight returns with Affleck would be amazing.

Annoyed because everyone tries to give us a grounded Batman film instead of going a bit more comic book with it.

Excited because it looks like an actual fucking detective film.

90% on rt and 72 on meta.

It's better than the majority of stuff out in the MCU.

You know what, you’re absolutely right man, I did like Suicide Squad, it just completely slipped my mind.

I enjoyed Burtons original when I was a kid, but I don’t feel they hold up. There’s a lot of solid aspects, but given my gravitation towards more real/gritty filmmaking, the Adam Westesque style just doesnt so much for me. I can see the appeal and still recognize it for what it did, but it’s not something I’d watch by choice or something I’d recommend to someone who hasn’t seen it.

Ben was fine, but until DC completely gives up on copying/following the Marvel model, we’ll be stuck with a DC that shows flashes of promise, but is ultimately mediocre only on their best of films. The reason they do animated so fucking well, is because they’re not trying to pander to everyone. They’re creating a movie that’s good for people who already loved the character and who love the comics and it fucking works, because both are great to begin with.

DC needs to accept that they’ll never be Marvel and move the fuck on. There’s so much wasted potential for a franchise that has so much perfectly dark and fucked up source material to draw from to captivate the adult comic audience. Not everything comic has to be catered to fucking tweens and adults who think canned jokes, phoned in performances and CGI are adequate substitutes for fucking depth.

There are a few things I think DC needs to understand going forward.

1) their main characters are significantly more popular than Marvel (not including Spider-man, aka the only character that was actually profitable pre-mcu), meaning they don't really need to waste so much time on origin crap.

2) stop it with the realism bullshit already, Batman isn't cool because he is dark and gritty and will break a guys back. He is cool because he is the world's greatest detective, has out of this world gadgets, CAN kick your ass if needed but is also very empathetic.

3) for the love of God please make stuff with other characters. Make elseworld stuff.

4) please more comic oriented. Just adapt comic stories, that's all we want, that's why the animated films are so good. Stop trying to hire directors to adapt 20 of their personal favourite comics into 1 movie. Just tell them you want them to do a specific story. Like Long Halloween.

5) seems like they have learned their lesson on this, but reduced studio meddling. Hire someone with a vision, not a director for hire type who will do everything a board asks.

Edit: DC has better characters and better stories. Like 8/10 of the best comics of all time are DC. They just need to utilize their IP better.

You're cute.

Edit: I think The Suicide Squad might have been one of the worst movies I watched this year. Even saw it in theaters.

Most capeshit is bad. Endgame was bad. Infinity war was decent. BVS/Justice league were probably the most shittiest movies I have ever watched. The animated BVS movie was good.

Recent batman trailer made me more interested as it doesn't look like some dumb downed mcu/dcu crap.

Also it's only on a $100 mill budget so potentially no cgi clusterfuck.

Decent Capeshit:

Winter soldier
Iron man 1 (maybe wouldn't really term it capeshit)
Infinity War
2008 Hulk

Good non capeshit (I don't grp them into capeshit as they are written well and have soul):

Sam raimi spiderman
TDK trilogy

He already provided irrefutable evidence that it was well received.... Arguing against provable facts with an opinion, doesn't do much to move the needle in your favor here. You can personally hate it, but it doesn't mean other people didn't like it. I personally think almost everything the MCU does is bad to mediocre at best, yet they consistently receive rave reviews from fans and critics, so clearly canned humor and bad acting works for some people.

True you got me there, but I wouldn't exactly go off Meta or Rotten tomatoes for every movie. Some feel rigged.
Also the Suicide squad only did 167m, which is quite small compared to Marvel films. You'd expect the ones who like the story and characters would see the movie and somewhat enjoy it. As someone who doesn't care for the characters, I can assure you the movie was not great. Everyone I went to see it thought it was one of the worst movies they've ever seen.
