That's why I think

Would have been the proper ending.

No black mirror episode really has a positive message. Look at how in the cycling episode the person trying to rise up and start a revolution abandons it to become another cog but at a higher rung (can anyone say Kaepernick).

So I think doing something like restarting the cycle to show how crappy humanity can be and how hard it is to change that aspect would have been the best ending I can personally think if tbh.

I mean, it certainly would have been better than the non-ending we got. So let's start with your idea. Even after their dna is stolen, we see that he has a digital backup on his computer.

In the real office, he talks to the tech guy about changing the friend request protocol to prevent another140 char message from getting out. He goes back into his mod and changes his omnicorder from a handheld to something that attaches to his eye or ear. We then see him taking the elevator on his virtual ship. As the doors open, the camera shows his face which has a devious smile. As the door opens, the camera shifts behind him and we can see he's stepping onto the bridge. In the background, beyond him, the camera is all out of focus but we can make up a few blurry blotches of red/blue that could very well be humanoid shapes.

Maybe he also fires Nanette irl. not sure about this part though.

I didn't really expect such a goofy ending for USS Callister. I would have preferred if Robert put fail safes into the program and wasn't stuck there. Instead the team should have failed, which should have given the message that you cannot escape the simulation. It should have given a sense of profound hopelessness. A very dark ending would have been much better.

I didn't like the scene which Nannete hacked the system but that indian guy couldn't figure it out. That was lazy writing.

But I did like how they made Robert's character so vulnerable. A highly intelligent man that spends so much time on the computer with very little social interaction. He doesn't realize he is being manipulated by Nannete because he doesn't have experience with women. You could say that Robert is like the average jsper (well if it does apply).
