Awwww, SAO would have been a good one too. I don't think I'd put Elfen in there, doesn't seem to be that popular of a show really.
I've watched all of DBZ (still watching Super), all of Bleach, and most of Naruto. I can seem them for what they're, decently entertaining shows that pander to the masses without a hell of a lot of substance. The first season of SAO was good, but why the fuck they bothered continuing it after leaving the game, just doesn't make any sense to me. The only thing that made it somewhat interesting, was the threat of constant death, if you die in the game. Remove that, and you're just watching a show about nerds who play far too many videogames for the sake of playing far too many fucking videogames lol. While I would spend all my time gaming (or most of it), if I didn't have a job, wife, and kid, I don't want to watch a fucking show about it. I enjoy DBZ because of nostalgia and always will. I actually liked Bleach until the end of Aizen. Yes, you have to either suffer through shit-tons of filler or skip it for the show to be somewhat enjoyable and it's omfg painfully predictable. Follows the same damn formula as every popular shonen. Oh, I was holding back, I have this other power, oh, but you forgot about this other power I have. Bad guy is stronger, almost kills good guy or kills good guy's friend, good guy reaches new power and kills bad guy. Rinse repeat
Haven't ever watched Bleached tbf. I've always planned on reading it though, but the fact it hasn't ended always put me off.
Naruto... I watched the anime and enjoyed it until the fillers. I got sick of them and started reading the manga, which I forced myself to finish over the last years of it's publishing history... imo it had been decaying significantly after Sasuke left and then went to total shit when the war started.
DBZ I will always love because I grew up watching it. I agree that nostalgia is what makes it overrated, but I wouldn't call it a bad show... sure the story and character development is mediocre, but it was influential and innovative, and that deserves some credit. It changed the whole action shonen genre. I'd say it's just overrated, rather than bad. In any case, I much prefer DB, which I think is a fantastic and hilarious adventure anime.
