I liked the direction they took with Rouge One, but like I said, I didn't care about any of them. I knew they would die from the beginning of the movie and left with a feeling of, welp, they died, at least it was kind of a cool concept. There was some good things, It's still just pretty much a toss-up for me between this and 7, and I was pretty disappointed by both. I was more so disappointed by Rouge because a few people who's opinion I highly respect when it comes to film, spoke as though it was the best thing Star Wars had ever done, and as if it was the best movie of the entire year. I just wasn't all that impressed with the majority of the movie, was sorely disappointed with a lot of the acting, and it was upsetting that I felt nothing for any of the characters when they met their inevitable demise.
Saving Private Ryan was absolutely fantastic, but there's always room to build on genres. You could have thought the mobster movie genre was done after the Godfather, Goodfellas, and Casino, but then along comes the Fucking Departed and boom, you're sucked right back in lol.
Could debate that Departed is best of that genre
