lol it's a feel good movie, half the music was 80's pop disco ffs
if you were expecting some dark isolation movie about the terrors of being stranded in space then ofc it's not going to measure up

and the avengers was amazing...learn to enjoy stuff, not just things that are technically sound but generally boring af

If I were to define the movie in one word, it would be unambitious. They missed the opportunity of making a "realistic" well documented and thought provoking movie like Interstellar. They missed the opportunity of making an intense movie about isolation like Cast Away. This movie could have been great if they had tried to risk going in one of these directions because the plot had all the needed ingredients, but they decided to go for an easy mild entertainment route that would combine some aspects of both. Over all a decent movie that doesn't fail due to it's conservative approach, but left me with the feeling that it could have been much better if the director had been more ambitious.

The comedy was bad indeed though.

Interstellar's climax was the concept of love...
Don't use that as an example lol

This movie is really where you draw the line for suspension of disbelief?

cause that's kind of weird given how down the middle it was.

It really sucked me in and made the need for suspension of disbelief a bit easier to swallow

until the end where he used his suit to propel him for a hand-to-hand pickup. that was just too over the top

That's completely missing the point... I think that the whole "power of love" thing is cheesy and out of place in the movie, but that's irrelevant to what I'm saying. Interstellar was a movie with great visuals that tried to take a realistic approach for the most part, submerge you into the film so that you feel like you're going on an interstellar journey yourself, and make you wonder/dream/speculate/fantasize about space exploration. The Martian could have tried going this path and make the viewer fascinated with Mars and the idea of traveling there, but it didn't.

The idea of the Martian was that man could conquer/survive on a hostile alien planet. Space isn't all wonder and magic, it sucks and can kill you without notice or hesitation, but we can survive it. I think it achieved that.

I mean obviously there was very little scientific accuracy but still...

And that's why I mention Cast Away as the other possible route. A movie about survival and isolation... but the movie didn't really create an emotional bond between the viewer and the astronaut. Aside from the crop raising bit and some few other scenes, it's mostly just a story about a rescue mission and him talking to a diary or the NASA.

I didn't dislike the movie, I just felt like it should have been better because it had all the right ingredients for a great film. Over all not a bad movie as it delivers what they wanted to deliver, but not an ambitious one either.

Decided to watch it even tho I knew it was gonna be shit but not that shit wow

What was up with them cheesy punch lines...? I laughed my ass off not coz it was funny but coz it was so fucking retarded xD

Hollywood went full retard on this one hahaha

You went full retard with this post.

It was not a terrible movie... sure, you can disagree and think it wasn't a great movie, but there was no need to be rude and immature about it. Aren't you like in your mid 20's or so? Grow up.

This kid thinks Avengers and Fast 7 were amazing too I bet

Trying way too hard to act tough on the Internet. #facepalm
In my opinion, anyone who calls this guy a "kid" is the one acting like a kid.
Everyone has a different taste, and that includes movies. I didn't like Forrest Gump at all, but I can at least acknowledge that it was a great movie. It apparently had a huge impact on people, so...

The Martian entertained me, and I thought Matt Damon did a good job acting. It was a great movie IMO, but no I wouldn't rank it in the Top 100 or whatever.

My favorite parts of the movie were when he was sitting around looking at Mars. Alone on a hostile planet and being able to appreciate the beauty was pretty powerful to me. Everything else was cheesy, but I think it was meant to be.
