Spacey agree with 100% - He's been fantastic allover the field and that's what truly makes an actor above and beyond the grade.
Gotta disagree on Theron, one movie doesn't rectify the massive piles of shit she turns out. Æon Flux, Hutsman, Reindeer games... the list goes on and fucking on, she does terrible movies and she's generally terrible in them. Even the Italian Job (which is terrible and yet I like) which was pretty much a giant commercial for the Mini with mediocre actor across the board, she was arguably the worst of the bunch of actors just phoning it the fuck in for a paycheck.
I Agree with Leto and McConaughey as well. I fucking hated MM, but his work in True Detective, Dallas Buyer's Club and Interstellar made it impossible for me to hate him. He's just too damn good. Going back on Leto, even when he was a bit actor in shit movies (which I like, because I like shitty movies) like Lord of War, his acting was far and beyond that of the other cast members. He's committed and you can see it with every line he does.
Couple of my own I'd like to add
Christian Bale - Seems like a lot of people hate this guy (my wife loathes him), but Equilibrium is one of my favorite B movies of all time, he killed it in the Machinist, and American Psycho is pretty much just a giant showcase of how amazing he truly is (my wife had to admit that she still hated him, but that he was an amazing actor after I forced her to watch AP). He was a great Bruce Wayne, but I did hate the voice/actions he did in a lot of the Batman triology. He was still one of the best batman's, if not the best, but I attribute that more to Nolan.
DiCaprio - Fuck this guy. He can do anything and just nail it. Blood Diamond, The Departed (top 10 all time for me), Inception, Shutter Island. The guy just doesn't pick bad fucking movies right now, I could name plenty more, but it's a new and equally impressive character each time. I can't think of another child actor who's ever made the leap to this sort of greatness. Even when he was younger and had the idiotic teen heartthrob thing going for him; his movies were tolerable or at the very least his acting was on point in them.
RDJ - I go back in forth with this guy. I love him for so many of the movies he's done in the past, but I hate that he's just selling out hard now and taking the easy money with these shit superhero movies. The first Ironman was top 3 for Marvel movies imo, I really enjoyed it. After that, including the Avengers/Civil War etc... it's been mediocre at best, and mediocre is a pretty generous critique for how bad some of these have been. Regardless, things he's done like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Tropic Thunder, and Sherlock show how versatile he is. He's done better movies, I just thought those three really personified the range he's able to pull off and that puts him well above the majority imo.
Lastly, I'd like to throw Daniel Day Lewis up there. I don't think I even need to explain why this guy is amazing.
Meh, I'm just not too big on Depp. He's done a few good movies here and there, but he turns out A LOT of shit films. Holy fuck was Pirates bad (first one was somewhat enjoyable), Secret Window was cringe worthy and Transcendence was one of the dumbest movies I've seen in the past few years.
What has Jlaw done that would make anyone classify her as being better than the majority? Winter's Bone and Silver Lining were both good, but that's two movies.... she hasn't done anything else even worth mentioning when talking about actors that are better than the rest. I'm glad she got to do a couple blockbuster movies and that she made some good money, that's pretty fucking dope. I just don't think she's anywhere near as talented as people originally thought she was, and she seems to have a hard time doing different characters.
FUCK. I forgot about Benicio. Ya, he's amazing in pretty much everything. Heavily disagree on Margot... she's incredibly attractive and I feel that's clouding your judgement. The movies she's taken have been almost all terrible. She had a bit role in Wolf, so who gives a shit. Tarzan was pretty terrible and Focus was the worst movie I watched in all of 2015, I finished it just because I was fascinated with how fucking horrible it was. Her taking the role in Suicide made sense, it was a ton of publicity for her and she'll probably be able to land a few others because of that. I just haven't seen anything from her to make me think she's even average... Once again, she's incredibly beautiful, but that doesn't make you good.
Christian Bale is an elite actor. The Machinist is another movie that shows how great he is. He is easily one of my favorite actors.
RDJ went from the bottom all the way to the top real quick. His career revival was pretty sweet to watch. I disagree with Civil War being bad though. Iron Man 2 & 3 were mediocre but RDJ nailed it in them too. His performance in Tropic Thunder was epic too. I think he even got a nomination out of it iirc.
Margot Robbie was more of a prediction than anything. I think she will have a long Hollywood career. She just needs the right roles. It's hard for an actor to look good in a shit movie. She is hot but so is literally 98% of actors/actresses.
