Sorry but I think you're wrong, favorite means the one you prefer to others. If you take the plural of this its the ones you prefer, which means you have to prefer them over others but not necessarily the same as each other.
People understand that you rarely rate two things exactly the same so if you look at multiple examples they become the ones you prefer over others, not the ones you prefer as much as your favorite.
