If you want to talk about predictable movies......

Sicario spelled out every sequence before it happened.

I was excited for this movie, but it fell very short for me. The beginning had me hooked right away, but it went down hill from there.
The scene of them stuck in traffic was intense and thrilling, but that intensity didn't carry on throughout the remainder of the movie.

But yes, I agree that her character was played well. She showed that, even if you think you're top notch, you can knocked right back down when placed in a different environment.

To me the most interesting thing about Sicario is not the story it's the cinematic techniques put on display. The sound, the photograpy, the night vision scene, the long takes. That kind of stuff is always more important to me than storyline or dialogue.
But if you're not into stuff like that and feel it was too simplistic I can understand that critizism for sure, the movie is by no means amazing to me but nice enough.

Black Mass is way more centered around story, dialogue, characters etc so when characters fail to spark interest or when story becomes predictable it's a bigger problem in that type of film, in my opinion.

See, I thought the night vision was a good idea and not something used often (in fact, I can't really name a movie that utilized that at the moment), but nothing interesting came about it. The scene ended up being a big let down to me, sequencing wise, I expected to be more thrilled, i suppose. I wanted the feeling of something bad is going to happen, but that feeling didnt arrive. Though, I didn't expect her to get shot the way she did.

The plot, by the end, was as simple as a man gets revenge for the murder of his family. I guess I wanted it to be more complicated than that.

No, the cop likes him because of his character, yes they grew up together but that's not the main thing. He's always going on about Whiteys character and principles.
It's outright shown once yes but it's implied many times and outright stated many times more. Watch the film again and focus on what the bribed agent says.
If you think about which people he reacts negatively against or kill it's always people who have wronged him in some way, if you cross him he is all bussiness but if you don't he's a friendly fellow, that's what the film shows.

And no, Whitey doesn't give the agency anything, it's all bullshit orchestrated by the bribed agent.

Guess we interpreted the movie differently, go figure

Best Picture: Youth

Wonderful film that tackle subject matter that doesnt get discussed much, old age. Not only physical aging but also having a young or old state of mind.

Worst use of music: Irrational Man

If I ever have to listen to "the in-crowd" again I'm gonna kill myself.

Worst performance in a leading role: Johnny Depp, Black Mass.

Laughably bad in every possible way. Literal shit.

Best cinematography: The Assassin

Visual masterpiece, absolutely stunning.

Most anticipated for 2016:

Knights of Cups, The Revenant, Yip Man 3, Tjuvheder, Macbeth, Dheepan, Mustang, Jag är Ingrid, Carol, Arabian Nights - Volume I: The Restless One, Umimachi Diary, An, The Witch , Melbourne,

i made a thread about Knight of Cups. long story short, i ended up not checking it out because if i have 2+ hours to watch a movie, its going to be something i really really want to, not a 2 hour cologne commercial (as its been depicted as by many many reviews)
that being said, i still want to see it, just have to watch some other movies first.

I'll go with

Best Animated movie: Inside Out

Best Drama: Bridge of Spies

Best Action Movie: Star Wars

Best Picture: The Reverent

Best Whatever: Hateful Eight

Best Comedy: Sisters

Enjoyed Jurassic World and Avengers, but nothing truly special about them and would rate star wars as better action (completely opinion).

Sisters was god awful. I'd still bone Tina fey though.

i thought it was hilarious. It's a house-party comedy, and I don't expect it to be top-notch movie production.

I do expect it to be funny, and that it was.

Poelher and Fey are a GREAT combo

Malick is very polarising, I recommend checking out his early lighthearted stuff such as Badlands or Days of Heaven to see if his style is for you.
He is one of those directors that many people hate with a burning passion but critics and many filmbuffs hold in extremely high regard.
