To me the most interesting thing about Sicario is not the story it's the cinematic techniques put on display. The sound, the photograpy, the night vision scene, the long takes. That kind of stuff is always more important to me than storyline or dialogue.
But if you're not into stuff like that and feel it was too simplistic I can understand that critizism for sure, the movie is by no means amazing to me but nice enough.
Black Mass is way more centered around story, dialogue, characters etc so when characters fail to spark interest or when story becomes predictable it's a bigger problem in that type of film, in my opinion.
See, I thought the night vision was a good idea and not something used often (in fact, I can't really name a movie that utilized that at the moment), but nothing interesting came about it. The scene ended up being a big let down to me, sequencing wise, I expected to be more thrilled, i suppose. I wanted the feeling of
something bad is going to happen, but that feeling didnt arrive. Though, I didn't expect her to get shot the way she did.
The plot, by the end, was as simple as
a man gets revenge for the murder of his family. I guess I wanted it to be more complicated than that.
