I think they just say that to troll people because the truth is relative to perspective and the truth itself is not a simple B&W issue and understanding that one needs to see beyond the fog of distraction, the impulse of denial and those that define reality for you.

Well obviously they aren't telling a story word for word because that's impossible.

They could just be using some events that happened as inspiration

sure, most good writing has a some kind of muse and it could just be a whole bunch of other actual events, the show seems very well written, acted and directed.

Watched tonight's show, couple of things stood out - when they were visiting the Doctor in order to tell them how to deal with Cancer and he was trying to explain the benefits of the placebo effect - wow that was ironic. Love the part when the sheriff visited that couple and gave them a chance to tell the truth and how they couldn't because they were in so deep in the hole of lies that they dug. Figures that B of a daughter is screwing the Mob guy, and he tells that story of how whores mind up broken beyond belief and really all she can't think about is how he's boring her - oh brother. And then at the end of the show the Sheriff has a great line about Life being out of balance - an homage to the great film by Francis Ford Coppola - Koyaanisqatsi - Life out of Balance, yup another great show.
