Half you kids don't even know what trilogy means.
tril·o·gy
ˈtriləjē/
noun
a group of three related novels, plays, films, operas, or albums.
Creating a 4th would technically mean it's no longer a trilogy because it's a set of 4 now,
This man knows
Listen child, i have no idea what the op is trying to figure out, but it is extremely common knowledge that trilogy means a set of three.
However, just because more content is added after the fact, doesn't mean the trilogy is no longer a trilogy.
Jurassic park is actually a good example. Each movie is a stand alone movie, they aren't strictly sequenced together. It draws material from previous movies but the plots are unique to each movie.
Compare it to lord of the rings, the hobbit, or Star Wars, each trilogy continues the story of the previous movie, and thus making it an actual trilogy. These are true trilogies where in order to find out the outcome of the story, you must complete the series.
Also think of tenses. When the Jurassic park trilogy was complete, it stood as a trilogy. Now that Jurassic world exists, it doesn't take away from what already existed.
Here is a link, yes it's Wikipedia, get over it. There is some good information.
