despite the moments of cringeworthy oneliners and dialogue, 'the murphy' makes up for alot, most characters don't do stupid 'up the attic' moves and do things to the best of their ability, characters aren't flat, they are more or less dynamic, especially murphy who has changed alot and there is a clear goal, constant conflict and much action. Apparently, the bad parts are mended with the good parts which makes it 'work'.
