Spoilers

It made perfect sense.

SPOILERS

His world is collapsing on him leading up to the final season, that was the whole point of this season. He's lost his wife, his chief of staff and his ticket partner because of his own arrogance. He's in flight or fight now leading into what should be the last season and I'm excited as fuck.

He's not exactly sane though, the man's an incident away from snapping and doing something awful. It was a build-up season and I'm totally fine with that, as long as next season doesn't disappoint, which I don't expect it will.

He isn't exactly sane but man he's the cog in all of this imo. Best character in the show. Never fucked up like what happens in shows all the time. Him getting KOd wasn't really him fuxking up

That's what worries me about him the most. He's the last true ally that Underwood has and he's got to be at least somewhat resentful for being forced (pretty much) to murder a woman he loved. If for some reason Doug starts feeling under-appreciated (Frank has treated everyone like shit lately), I can just see him doing something fucked up and bringing it all crashing down. We'll see, I just don't see how this could possibly end well for Underwood but maybe they'll actually let the anti-hero win for once.

As long as Claire loses I'll be happy.

Same here. Claire was a giant bitch this season. I had built up a lot of respect for her through season 1 and 2, but she just shattered all of that in season 3.

I didn't say it didn't make sense, I said it was different.

How they resume with season 4 will be quite the hardship.

Actually, now that I have had some time to think about it. It doesn't make sense.

Claire has been a strong character throughout the show. She held frank together. She supported him. She was his mentor, his consult. It doesn't make sense for her to become so incredibly weak as she exhibited in season 3, especially within such a quick, short timeframe.

we, as an audience, are led to believe that Claire changed as a character (her suddenly becoming soft), but I don't buy it. We also are led to believe that this, extremely dynamic duo shown in the first two seasons, could overcome anything.

Also, I can't find a single report concluding that there will be only 4 seasons. I'm not sure where you're getting that information from.
