How would Dafoe have been better in the lead? He's too old now.

Keanu did fine, especially in the action scenes. Dem headshots were sweet lol

Oh also, extra points for some good music. Fuck yea, Manson!

He's old but he's in great shape, you can pass him off as younger with makeup.

Dafoe has a certain Charisma that Reeves don't, Matrix worked because every single character on that ship was extremly interesting which made up for Reeves stiffness.
He can't carry films like this by himself because his acting is too one dimensional.

But that's the thing. Because his acting is one dimensional, he's picked to play characters that have to give off that one single vibe he can play.

I thought he fit as the main character in that movie very much.

Reeves plays the introverted badass pretty well but can't do anything else. Movies like this benefit heavily by showing a human side to their protagonist such as Arnold in Terminator and his one liners and terrible sense of humour, in this film Reeves is absolutely nothing but a walking killer which makes him very uninteresting and hard to relate to so the only reedeming feature in this film is the violence and while that is fun to some extent it could easily have been a much better film if they scripted his character a bit better.

They make an attempt at what i'm talking about by making him bond with a dog but it's too little.

Ewww no.

No.

The reason I enjoyed this more than regular pow pow movies was that he acted like what a real serial killer should be imo. Kill everyone, no second thoughts. His most prized kill, he just walked up to him, shot him in the face and left. No words, no "human side" just straight up kill him.

One thing I'll agree with you was the weird dog bonding thing.

If anything they should've killed the dog and stolen his car a couple years after his wife died. Or....scratch the entire dog idea, find another reason to piss off John Wick and then let him rampage.

why a couple of years ?
it makes more sense to have that fresh wound of recently losing his wife his entire reason for changing his lifestyle and getting out of the "game"

This is Breivik, one of the alltime worst mass murderers crying in court.

The way you picture a "real serial killer" dosen't exist, it's just poor over the top writing.

I'm not talking about killers like him.

I'm talking about killers for hire. The person that John Wick was made out to be. The "guy you hire to kill the boogieman". The image I had of what that character should be was portrayed well enough by keanu.

Besides it's not like the acting in that movie (from ANYONE including dafoe) was spectacular. It was an action flick with interesting gun play, nothing more. Can't I be entitled to think differently than you? lol

There isn't much emotional attachment to a dog you've had for 2 days. I get that it was his wife's "last gift", but ultimately that movie was a guy killing 50 ppl cause his car got stolen and a puppy he's had for 2 days got killed.

He's a sociopath... Someone like that would kill for a lot less. He even explained it at one point, stating that the dog was how he found solace and was finally able to grieve in peace because he wasn't alone. The entire thing made sense and it was pretty well done. Some of the fights weren't as well done as they could have been but they were exciting for the most part. Solid 7.5/10 movie, a lot better than I had expected.
