Was grim

True stories usually are.

I actually knew ZERO about the story before watching it. Was pretty shocked at how things went down. That dude is amazing. I don't care whether you support the war or not. His ideals, and the bravery he showed.... WOW

Fuck, now Bradley's gonna win with American Sniper because it's about 'Murica.

Dude. He should probably win because his acting is fucking INSANE in that film. Did you even watch it?

I personally think Carell should win for 'Foxcatcher', but either are probably deserving.

Carell wasn't bad in Foxcatcher, but I don't know about winning.

I saw American Sniper and Cooper's just been knocking it out of the park in his last few movies. It's just the film itself couldn't really keep me interested. Feels like stuff I've seen countless times before. It's bland.

And Foxcatcher was kind of the same. I knew of the actual story. It was portrayed well, but it's a boring story in the first place.

I just got done watching Birdman and while the acting isn't the absolute best I've seen, the story and the whole cast kept me watching and time flew by.

A lot of oscar season movies are just shameless attempts at snagging an oscar and you can just feel it in the script and the way it's done. The actor themselves do a good job yes, but god damn a lot of those movies are just a pain to watch.

Anyway, Birdman was a fun watch at least.

I was just thinking about this. Have you seen some of the statistics for Oscar winners? If you want to win an Oscar, there's a really narrow genre of settings and subject matter. I.e. you should make a social issue historical biopic featuring WASP male leads.

Comedy like Office Space? Action movie like The Avengers? Feature a mostly minority cast like Gran Torino? Strong female lead like Alien? Forget any chance at even getting a nomination.

Essentially, the Academy is composed mainly of baby boomer white guys who get pandered to by directors and writers this time of year. No doubt a bunch of great movies will be panned over in favor of some film no one wanted to see.

Lowest common denonimator trash gets slammed in award season by movies that has some actual thought put into them, more breaking news at 11.

Sure Office Space is fantastic but comedies that good are extremly rare and they can't touch the best Dramas anyway.

LOL, I just got done watching it. I apparently thought the opposite... I thought the acting was superb. The story however, left a bit to be desired. I liked it, don't get me wrong. I just think it could have been written a little better. But, then again, I am a snob for good screen writing. The "long shots" were quite impressive though. That editor/cameraman/photographer deserves to win some sort of award for coordinating all of that.

Yes camera work was incredible.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the actors were amazing too, just not the absolute best I've SEEN (was just trying to put a tad bit of criticism, but it's hard. I really liked the movie lol)

You felt the story left to be desired? Why? It was a little straight forward, yes, but it's the story of an oldschool guy trying to feel like he matters and I felt it throughout the movie.
