That trilogy had a myriad of problems not even worth mentioning at this point. Lazy film-making is what flat out ends the discussion though, just because easily entertained people oohed and aahed a few times to shitty CGI doesn't make it a good movie. I haven't heard hardly anything positive from any of the people who liked those movies besides it looked cool. I've got no problem with people enjoying shitty movies, that's their own business, but I'm still going to call out a director when I see him fuck up that badly.

Why would you recommend this? The movie is complete shit if you've read the book. At least you can ignore the bad plot/characters if you don't know what they're meant to be.

If you are into this type of film, you cannot not like the Lotr trilogy. I personnaly liked the Hobbit trilogy but that may be because I love every movies I watch except the Adam Sandler one's.
