Fan service lol. I personally enjoyed Black Lagoon but I wouldn't recommend it for someone just coming into anime, an even slightly Echi feel can turn someone off very quickly. Just my personal opinion though. I'm not saying it doesn't have plenty of action but I think there are more suitable options for a first timer.

Claymore is average as a manga, and fucking annoying as an anime (yes, Raki, I'm looking at you).

Berserk is baller, no questions asked. Three OVA's weren't bad either, shame it's just a rehash of the older anime. Manga slowed down as fuck though.
