The Wire is the best show on television. I'm not even really into crime shows (I hate CSI, Law & Order, etc) but I still say this. It's brilliant and everybody should watch it.

If youre into Crime type of TV shows, I'd recommand these:

White Collar: A white collar criminal agrees to help the FBI catch other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter and racketeer.
Burn notice: A spy that gets burned, that is trying to get back into the CIA, but has no support except a couple of friends
Criminal Minds: Group of profilers that try to predict the next move of the killer.
Dexter: Serial killer that works in the police, that kills people that have escaped justice
Bones: Just like CSI, but its all based around bones.
The Mentalist: an ex-psyhic that works with the CBI, and focused on finding the person that killed his wife and daughter
Dark Blue: a group of undercover officers, that will do anything
The Following: psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command.
Castle: A mystery noval writer, that tags alone with the police to help solve crimes from his point of view
The Wire(was already recommanded)
Hannibal - Turning out to be pretty good
Covert Affairs: female spy sent into the field for the DPD, with the help of blind tech operative.
Numb3rs: a Math genius, works with his brother who is an FBI agent, helps solving crimes. but using complex math
Leverage: A group of thieves that help people that get back what that have been stolen from them.

I guess i'll start this off with some shows that i enjoy(ed) and recommend.

Prison break : Brilliant show, about a man who gets himself put into the same prison as his brother to help him break out. Alot of action, excitement and an amazing performance by the main character (10/10)
Lost : An airplane crashes onto an mysterious island and the survivors struggle with dangers from the jungle and other inhabitors of the island. Characters will get you hooked. (8/10)
Heroes : People with supernatural abilites...and sexy hayden panettiere. Decent sci-fi, drama show. (7/10)
Alphas : Just finished the last season of this show. It got alot better in season 2, and ryan cartwright was just brilliant! (8/10) unfortunatley this show got cancelled after season 2.
The walking dead : I guess everyone knows about this show! Anyways. Zombies! Latest season was really good. (7.5/10)
Spartacus, Blood and sand : About an thracian gladiator.. Alot of bloody and sexual scenes. (8.5/10)
Band of brothers : This is one of the best shows i've ever watched. World war 2 mini-series centered around a company of paratroopers and their mission in europe.  (10/10)
The Pacific : ww2 mini-series. Same director as of Band of brothers, but about the battles in the pacific, and more of an drama tv show imo. Very interesting characters, gets alot better further in the show. Not as good as BoB, but almost. (9.0/10)

I am looking for shows similar to these ones. Theme(sci-fi, whatever) in the show doesn't really matter for me, just that it has a storyline that follows and got interesting characters.
