They have NO.. Absolutely NO idea what the gov. is doing. They don't know if he's hiding in the woods, waiting to ambush, or completely ran back.
And if they have to do a "final escape", you've already said PLENTY of times, the walkers are slow and stupid. So... Give a sharp/blunt object to the front 2 people running the escape route and kill them all on the way...
I mean, if it's just that easy to clean them up, why wouldn't it be that easy to kill them on the run?

But you've got to remember. They have a cripple, an older lady, a baby, a delusional leader, and a young child.
They are running of VERY VERY little-no food at all.
Lack of constant clean water flow.
They were in a gunfight, only days prior.
They have been cleaning up walkers/finding new routes in the prision/scavenging...
You forgot a LOT of factors in this "ez pk zombies" thought you have.
