It should be but it isn't always, probably hardly ever in Hollywood. Those big hollywood production companies pay for films to make profit, I think it's pretty safe to say some films have been and will be made atleast partially oscars in mind. Free everlasting visibility: $$$$$.

I can't tell it is an oscar bait film but seemed like one. (Expensive) Inspirational epic adventure melodrama for the whole family.
Wouldn't have mind about it probably if I'd have liked it, unnecessary cynicism and skepticism maybe but execution of this film was just so standard and voiceless.

@ Bold, I think its more than safe to say that. I'll go one step further and say most, if not all films are made with oscars in mind. I would assume at least one person on any production has hope of winning an oscar: actors, costume designers, effects team, cinematographer, whoever. probably one of them would like to be appreciated for their work.

On a side note. I'm not one to believe a big budget makes something voiceless, that happens when all of the production value, a list acting, and attention to detail, fails to speak to me.

I'd watch that just waiting to see the boat tip.

Just finished watching it.
As I posted somewhere else, this is a movie that should be seen at least one time by everyone. Ofc, thats my opinion.

Oscars just focuse to the highest marketed tier movies, so that incestious industry wankfest is unbalanced atleast for acting, cinematography, directing, writing thus not making it about art.

I won't see it because the book was fantastic and there's no way it would compare.

Just got around to watching this movie Such an amazing story I wish this was recommended to me as a book.

Didn't read any other comments in here, but I really liked the movie. I'd have to say I'd definitely watch it again.
