Movies are just a medium of art. A message for storytelling. Nothing says that they must be entertaining above all else. Some of the most powerful movies are powerful because of what they are saying not because of big explosions. There are also an uncountable number of movies that do nothing except entertainment.

And if you're upset that a movie set in a post war era has a "war is fucked up" feeling to it, idk what to say to you. War IS fucked up.

Dude is literally just a racist but knows he isn't supposed to admit it.

I didn't mean entertaining as in explosions. I meant being more on the nose I suppose. A lot of decisions in films are made based on certain messages, when in reality it doesn't NEED to be that way.

I still need to watch the new godzilla. Excited for it, it looks good

Damn, I just wanted a respectable open discussion about "why" someone believed is was a terrible movie. I forgot its the internet and people are sometimes just nasty yo be nasty.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was a great story about post war Japan with one of my favorite giant monsters. Sorry it made you guys turn on each other.

Enjoy your holidays!

In the context of film, your use of the word 'powerful' is really no different from 'entertainment'. A movie being artful or conveying a message can be entertaining, just as movies containing big explosions can be powerful.

If a movie is not entertaining it cannot be powerful, it is just a bad movie.

I disagree.

"Powerful" means emotionally moving. Entertainment doesn't have to be, and usually isn't.

"Entertainment" usually implies light hearted fun whereas "powerful" is deeper and emotional. You can't really do both at the same time. You can have movies which encompasses both at different moments, but both cannot really happen in tandem.

Lord of the Rings for example is entertaining at points and powerfully emotional at others.

Most Michael Bay movies are just brain-dead entertainment with explosions n shit.

All quiet on the western front isn't entertaining but it is really good and emotionally moving ("powerful").

That's how I see it anyways.

Agreed first point
Disagree second point

Just saw the film was pretty good. Asian acting is so over the top but it works for them.

I can see the criticisms on acting /OTT expressions and some corny moments , a lot of this is cultural though

It was a great movie, especially given the budget. Definitely better than the recent Hollywood version with mecha and King Kong

Waste of two hours. Starts off strong, then shits the bed half way through.

Boring, too long, and they kill the bury the entire thing at the end.
