I liked Elysium, hated Chappie, mainly because I was incredible hyped for it. (Went in the cinema on release date, came out disappointed)
I like what he is doing with his Oats Studio, District 10 could work.
In a reddit ama he mentoined that District 10 is definetly an option, but right now he is too busy with other stuff. Maybe in a few years we will get a Prequel/Sequel, both would be very interesting.
idk, I really liked District 9, and looking at Elysium and Chappie (I didn't like either of them), I don't see how a follow up movie could live up to it.
Also much of District 9's charm was how original the concept was and how it turned the whole alien invasion conventions inside out while at the same time delivering a deeper message... a "District 10" would probably lose much of that originality, so I doubt it would work out as well as District 9 did. It would be interesting if they completely changed the genre, like how the Riddick movies went from survival scifi horror to a Dune-esque scifi to a survival/isolation genre... not all of them worked out as well as they could have, but at least they all felt fresh (well, the last one didn't during the second half of the film, which was basically a copy of the first movie... but the first half was a completely different concept to the previous 2 movies).
