Why bother with this kevorkian guy , he's obviously looking for an arguement .
I'm simply sharing my opinion. Threads like this create arguments as well as discussion and there is nothing wrong with that...

Best friend, partner, brother from another mother. At that point he knew about Shane and Lori, but he is still his best friend and she is still his wife. So he's conflicted about his best friend's deteriorating mental state, the fact that he slept with his wife and got her pregnant(though they haven't actually determined who is really the father, there is some implication it is shane's but nothing definitive) and that he tried to kill him. While he has been there for him the entire time, through thick and thin.
Then when Maggie comes out covered in blood, Carl crying but not sobbing, trying to remain stoic in the midst of everything, Maggie bawling her eyes out with the baby in her arms. The memory of t-dog on rick's mind, and the possibility of Carol being dead as well. The rage of what Andrew did, and how he is partially responsible for it because he 1. didn't kill him personally or 2. didn't let him live. The rage of knowing that Shane's baby is responsible for his wife's death. So many emotions playing at one time.
With everything just crashing down, dropping to his knees and going into the fetal position and just keening is a reasonable response to everything that has happened to him. Everyone breaks, even Rick who has gone beyond the call of duty.
I could see the possibility of a massive breakdown now that you put it like that I suppose. It does still seem a bit odd/out of place to me though. Maybe this is just because Lori has done such a great job of making her self so hated as an actor that the emotion attached to her even seem tarnished to me...
