I thought the cinematogrpahy was great (as usual from Wes Anderson), and that alone was reason enough for me to enjoy it. Wouldn't really consider it a kids movie, but rather a movie aimed for adult viewers, with the goal of bringing them nostalgia and the feeling of innocence they've forgotten over the years. Even if the characters are kids, I don't think this romance-drama story is one a kid relates to... I think it's easier to relate to the characters and story of this movie when you're an adult and you look back at your childhood.
But that's just my opinion :P
Yeah, I agree with you on cinematography. I didn't get bored while watching the movie, so that's one point won for them. Some things did remind me of my childhood, but not a lot. I guess because it was set in 1965, a couple decades before I was born lol. Plus my dad never allowed me to join Boy Scouts.
