La La Land
Not my cup of tea, pretty corny.

Yeah, this one felt odd. To me, it seemed like it had a huge identity crisis in terms of style. It tried to be both Singin' in the Rain and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg at the same time. Obviously this mix of style worked for a lot of people, given all the acclaim it's been getting... but to me it just felt off. As a musical, it was so lacking. It was like all the song numbers were trying so hard to be casual, messy, understated, but then they weren't memorable at all.

The Firm (1993)

Pretty decent. I had a sense of déjà vu while watching the movie... I'm pretty sure I watched this many years ago (it's not a memorable film so it could be the case, but I rarely forget the movies I see, so it's strange...), but whatever. It was an entertaining suspense movie and I enjoyed it. Not amazing, but it doesn't try to be either (at least not too hard); everything is in place and it works.

You mention Al Pacino... but not the lead, Johnny Depp. That just seems odd.
