I watched Night Hawks, really poor Stallone flick. 1 / 5!

Only lovers left alive - Damn great, beatifully shot, dark, mysterious, atmospheric, great soundtrack. Realy liked it.
Just read a few reviews and some people are complaining about the missing story and I have to admit it's a realy thin one.
But I didn't mind, haven't even recognized it after checking imdb.

Laurence Anyways - Danish Girl in good without the pretentious "Oscar Bait" bullshit.
The last Xavier Dolan film that I had on my list and just like his other movies I really liked it. The story and the characters are engaging and the whole movie is very well made with a good camera and supporting soundtrack. Mommy is still my favorite but Laurence comes pretty close.
Looking forward in seeing his future work, he's very talented for such a young age.

I'm always impressed with Dolans's direction, mood and choice of music but I feel like his films lack substance. I feel like he's probably too young to write his own screenplays and that's a major problem for him but I'm convinced he'll create masterpieces later on as he's obviously very talented.

Just my two cents.

His movies are always about human relationships which he presents very intriguing, they almost feel autobiographric.
Maybe he had/has some sexual problems which he presents on the big screen.
I don't feel like his movies lack substance, there is always a focus on 3-4 characters which are very complex and multilayerd.
I agree that his work gets better with every movie he makes, Mommy just blew me away.
I am excited for Juste la fin du monde, altough I heard some bad stuff about it.

Documentary about VHS collecting, a love letter to the golden age of home video entertainment. Would have been nice to get more information on the subject, mostly they did a few interviews with VHS collectors about their experience in this world.
I would recommend it to those who also have a huge shelf of movies at home and are passionate about collecting them.

Gandhi

Well it's a 3h biopic, nothing entertaining about it. If you are interested in the history of Gandhi you can check it out, you probably get more information if you just read a Wikipedia article.
I was bored and had to force myself watching it, probably sounds blashphemic...

lol anyone who doesn't love that movie obviously doesn't care about the rights of the poor indians!
