The Gift (2015)

Pretty good for contemporary thriller, wasn't perfect but was pretty exciting at times and didn't go full retard with plot-twists.

Mùi du du xanh - L'odeur de la papaye verte (aka The Smell Of Green Papaya) (1993)

Pretty boring tbh. The tempo is slow, there's no real story or character depth, and unlike other asian movies with similar issues, it doesn't compensate it's flaws with beautiful landscapes or interesting cultural differences.

Yeah, it's a pretty dull film. I love the mood, the photography and the sounds but overall it's a disappointing affair.

I liked it + cyclo, nice slice of life iirc. So far if i love the mood and photography of a movie it's not possible that it's dull for me :o

La isla mínima

Neo-noir film with some political themes. It describes a small rural town that's trying to get used to the death of Franco. Corruption is everywhere, you don't know who to trust and someone is killing the town'ss young girls. Sounds exciting?
Not really, film is too slow for its own good and I've seen too many films in this genre to not be bored when directors don't move away from the typical framework of the genre.

Ve Stinu (aka In The Shadow) (2012)

Decent crime/thriller set in 1950s Czechoslovakia. Has it's highs and lows, but it was entertaining. The political message was not so great though; with the stereotypical story where everyone who works for the state is the worst kind of scum, except for the main character, who is a noble idealist that isn't aware of how bad the dictatorship is.

This has actually been in my to-watch list for like 2 years... idk, here movie critics circle-jerked around it and the movie won all kinds of awards.

Well, I couldn't get into it :/

I've got Cyclo and The Vertical Ray of the Sun (or whatever it's called) stored in my HD... I hope I enjoy them more ^^

I think you should definitely watch it despite me being pessimistic about it. You, being Spanish means you will probably appreciate the political aspects of the film more than I did.
Furthermore, I suspect I would have liked this a lot more if I hadn't milked this genre so much already. I really have seen way too many films in this genre.

Stangers On A Train (1951)

A great Hitchock movie which I had still to watch. It's similar to many of the director's other works, and yet the film still hooked me and went by in no time. I really liked Robert Walker in this movie; excellent acting.

I'll get to it eventually, I keep downloading movies much faster than what I can keep up with :D
