Les parapluies de Cherbourg

Visually stunning and well acted romantic musical. Must watch for anyone into stuff like Notebook or Moulin Rogue

8 / 10

some other stuff:

Concerto per pistola solista

4 / 10

Postriziny

3 / 10

Smashed

Addictionfilm, I like it but it's not really recommended. I'm a genrefag for addiction films and I have a crush on MEW so my bias is all over the place.

7 / 10

Le notti di Cabiria

Superb film, similar to La Strada but in my opinion better.

8 / 10

American Beauty

6-7 / 10

Office Space is similar and much better I think, the sexual frustration theme dosen't add much here and is given too much focus.

Chameleon

I felt like a 90's thriller but since i've seen all the good ones my expectations are always extremly low, this was surprisingly enough not terrible. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but it was watchable.

Why do you say that?

I think it has a thorough portrayal as far as sexuality, you have the military dad's repressed homosexuality, the sexual tensions in a long-term relationship between Lester and his wife, the exaggerated sexuality (i.e. the exaggerated importance people -- particularly the youth -- put on having sexual success), etc.

Office Space's advantage, in my opinion, is that it doesn't take itself as seriously as American Beauty does, at least not in my opinion, I just think American Beauty accomplishes a lot more and I really love Spacey in that role, it was reminiscent of Fight Club without any surrealistic whatnot going on.

EDIT -- Oh, on topic:

Hoosiers -- God damn I love Gene Hackman. Looking up his IMDB while watching and he's 85, hasn't appeared in a movie since '04. Gonna be sad when he dies :(.

Leaving Las Vegas -- Great movie, score reminds me of Taxi Driver quite a bit, jazz really puts you in a certain mood lol. Love how it trashes Vegas, since I lived there for so long.

Zodiac -- love this one to pieces, fall asleep watching it most nights.

The Interview -- finally got around to seeing it, was a piece of shit.

Because for me the parts of the film that work best are the dysfunctional families and Spaceys strife to reinvent himself, the hot blonde dosen't act well at all and her character is a walking stereotype ie not interesting. Whenever she's onscreen i'm bored so I think the execution was better in other areas of the film.
The unconvential beauty theme with the weird stoner works way better I think.
