I watch the Alien Quatrilogy probably once every month or two. I'm a pretty big fan. Alien 3 got the short end of the stick because the studio wouldn't give David Fincher complete control. There is a directors cut that makes watching it much much more enjoyable. I hate when they turn the Alien franchise to Sci-Fi action, as opposed to Sci-Fi horror. Alien and Alien 3 bring it back to it's rightful roots. Alien 3 makes you scared as fuck, because they literally have like ZERO real weapons, and everything becomes a cluster-fuck. I remember seeing it as a kid and just absolutely falling in love with the entire vibe he was trying to create. Alien 3 gets the worst rap of the bunch, and I hate seeing people bash it. Sorry, I had to defend my baby. The first one will always be perfect for me, but I have a special spot for Alien 3.
I do agree the Sci-fi Horror concept suits Alien much better than Sci-fi Action I just happen to think execution was better in the second film, to each his own of course

Not to take anything away from the film just speaking in general terms: Things that make a big impression on you at a young age has a tendency to stick with you for the rest of your life, I get that way with Moulin Rogue, The Matrix and Memento among others
