There's 7 billion people on this planet, and not everyone is going to react to depression the same way.
Like I've said in previous posts, this shows focus is more on bullying than suicide.
There wasn't really any bullying in the show.
There was rape and attempted rape and stalking which are all a felony.
Her parents were having money issues which seemed like a tipping point for her decision when she lost the money.
There was how she reacted to others because of the attempted rape.
And everything else was basically people just calling her hot, which yeah it's harassment. And two friend backstabbing her, which sucks I agree but I don't think you could call her best friend slapping her because of the list/boyfriend thing bullying.
And yes I know people go through and perceive things differently but something everyone has in common is how real we act when we are alone. She acts normal as fuck alone.
Also I don't think the show was anti-bullying at all. The shit that happens to the photographer kid is way closer to traditional bullying than what happens to the girl and they never even talk about it like it is an issue, they basically hint that he deserves it because of his part in her suicide which is fucked up. Plus all the "bullies" save for 2 were more focused on how the tapes could fuck up their lives rather than being remorseful that they drove a girl to kill herself.
They hint at her previous town being a bad place for her because of bullying, maybe if they got more into that...
I personally think the main message is how her death affected Clay. Like if you kill yourself you will seriously fuck up those around you that care about you so maybe try getting help? The thing that is repeated the most is 'we could have saved her'. I think that is the message they are trying for. But they do it so sloppily that all these other negative things pop up along the way. Imo.
