Definitely caters to fans and milks nostalgia. Can easily see that it would immensely appeal to someone who loves the series, but without the established fandom and returning beloved characters the movie is pretty average.

You got it backawrds
When it references older movies it's more of a spit to the face instead of relying on original good film making

Still, 8/10

It was a solid movie. 8-8.5/10.

It was predictable, and I'm a little mad at myself for buying into the hype and believing there could be unforeseen spoilers, but it is what it is. Sets it up nicely for hopefully something new and exciting. If the next installments can keep up the same quality, we should be in for a very fulfilling trilogy.

Better than I had anticipated when I first found out they were making this, slightly worse than anticipated after all the hype. Regardless, the acting was above average (something new for a Star Wars film), action/development was well paced, and the overall aesthetic of the movie was pleasing.

I'd say I'm satisfied, and that's more than I've felt with any Star Wars release in my lifetime lol.

It would be unwise for movie producers to only cater to "these hardcore fans" you speak of. After all, Making movies is an investment and business and catering to the largest target audience is what is most important.

You've really shown you lack common sense in the last 24 hours.......

Aside from that, it's the first of three films and as much as I would like it, they can't produce films that are 6 hours long to include everything possible.

I didn't say it's a bad decision. Obviously the films will cater to the casual crowd to hit the biggest audience. It was a good movie it wasn't a good Star Wars movie. At least in my eyes.

Perhaps, I wouldn't know. To me - a person who grew up without Star Wars and have only seen one of the 6 movies - it seemed decent but not great. I don't know any of the lore, so I can't tell how much it caters to a casual fan vs a hardcore one.
