Factotum (2005)
Okay, so I'm a pretty big Bukowski fan and I was very interested in this one but ultimately it let me down for a few reasons. The first was that it came off as far too polished and calculating. The depiction of skid row was insufficient, ultimately, and the overall feel of Chinaski's day-to-day life just wasn't right. Secondly, I felt like Dillon was miscast as the lead here. He did a good job trying to mimic Bukowski's mannerisms but he had too put together a look for my taste and was just too pretty to play him. The supporting cast was also farely weak, when you see actual images of the women he was with they do not look like Marissa Tomei.
Barfly was far better than this one, especially in the aspects I listed above.
I think the one thing the newer version did was depict the relationship between Bukowski and his father, I enjoyed that bit.
