Enter the Void (2009)

The film in its entirety felt like one long natural hallucination. Didn't really now what I was getting into when I chose to watch it (I hardly ever do) and wasn't sure what to do with myself once the credits rolled and I got up off the couch. An interesting take on death and the Tibetan perception of the afterlife.

Just now I'm learning the director also did Irreversible, which I enjoyed, so I'll be looking into more of NoƩ's works.

The Grapes of Wrath (1940) -- Very good movie, I thought that Fonda was very well cast as Tom Joad and I liked the casting of the remaining Joad family, as well. There were a lot of differences between the book and the film, the biggest of which being the ending and (and this is my opinion) the departure of Noah Joad in Arizona (and with it the relationship between Noah and Pa). Besides that I honestly didn't feel the the movie quite captured the pure desolation that the book managed to, but then they didn't want everybody who saw it to kill themselves lol. Overall a very important piece of film in terms of American history and required viewing, in my opinion. Another one Steinbeck said he enjoyed, apparently.

Pacific Rim

I thought some of the acting was awful.

Also, if they had swords all along why didn't they use those instead of having fist fights with the creatures...

Early on in the movie I found myself saying "Well that went exactly as expected. Now all this story needs is the standard girl for the protagonist to share an extremely unusual talent (and inevitably fall in love) with" ...guess what happened next...

Oh yeah, did I mention the customary "douche bag rival" that eventually gives his grudging respect and friendship?

Shamefully predictable.
