Hunger (2008) -- 3.0 // 5.0
A History of Violence (2005) -- 2.5 // 5.0
Watched these two last night. Hunger was an interesting movie with a very good performance by Fassbender but the movie overall wasn't too great. It reminded me of ambient music, really, it created a mood more than it tried to tell a story, I think. It's very anti-state, anti-authoritarian, etc., etc., which is cool, but despite the low run time it seemed like scenes dragged on longer than they needed to.
A History of Violence was just too predictable for my taste. I enjoyed the "action" scenes they had in there but never felt concerned for the main characters or bought into their plight, really. There's stuff on the side, like the relationship between Viggo and his wife, particularly the kinky sexual stuff, which wasn't really resolved or expanded on much so I'm not sure what the point of their inclusion was. It's worth seeing the movie to see Viggo's son beat down the bully in that one scene though lol.
